Carol Lillian Klemp, daughter of Albert and Lillian Thompson Hoeger, was born October 31, 1930, in Fredericksburg Township of Chickasaw County, Iowa. She was baptized May 8, 1932, and confirmed May 25, 1945, by Rev. C.J. Mardorf at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Carol received her education in the rural Chickasaw County schools and graduated from Sumner High School in 1950.
On August 7, 1950, she was united in marriage with Walter Klemp at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Carol was a farm wife, cleaned houses, worked for a few years at the Hungry Peddler Restaurant, and worked in the housekeeping and laundry departments at the Hillcrest Home for ten years prior to retiring in 2000.
Following a brief illness, Carol’s death occurred at Hillcrest on Monday, April 9, 2012. She was eighty-one years old and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she participated in WELCA and the quilting group. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards, growing violets, and volunteering at Hillcrest.
Carol is survived by three daughters, Mary (Lee) Pries of Sumner, Lois (Bob) Rosol of Waverly, and Marlys Klemp of Sumner; and one grandson, Andrew Pries of New York City.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter in 1988; her parents; and one son-in-law, Jerry Cary.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Dayna Winke officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Thursday. Memorial donations may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church, the Hillcrest Home, or Palmer Heart of Iowa Hospice.
